Prereq: Graduate Student Status.
A two-credit course for graduate students in Integrated Plant and Soil Sciences. This course is an opportunity for IPSS students to review and practice important skills in professional communication such as manuscript and grant writing, revision, peer review, and formal and informal scientific presentations. This course will provide instruction and practice in the craft and norms of scientific communication by dissecting scientific papers, applying new skills through an iterative writing process, and refining presentation skills. The goal of this course is to set students up for success in professional communication in their discipline, for both their graduate studies and future career.
A one-credit companion course to IPS 625 specific for graduate students in the Integrated Plant and Soil Sciences program. This course exposes IPSS students to critical skills in publication, grantsmanship, and public presentation. It requires IPSS students to systematically evaluate research presentations from multiple disciplines, present a synthesis of the research topic addressed in IPSS 625, and interact with other members of the college and the university on topics related to plant and soil science issues. The course may be repeated twice.
