This 12-month course is designed to provide student with a basic understanding of and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common orofacial pain disorders and sleep disordered breathing disorders. Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to identify and assess common orofacial pain disorders and present a treatment plan to the attending clinician. The student should also be able to assess common sleep disorders and present treatment suggestions to the attending clinician. Emphasis will be placed upon history taking and clinical examination of patients and employing clinical procedures, prescribing medications, writing referral orders, and ordering imaging modalities and laboratory procedures. The student should be able to use information resources (i.e., books, journal articles) to thoroughly understand the various orofacial pain disorders, sleep disordered breathing and comorbid disorders and diseases encountered during the clinic hours.
