Communication Tools While Working From Home

To allow College and Departmental staff to continue to communicate while in a remote work situation, Hive is recommending the following campus applications available to all UK employees, as well as providing a limited number of checkout devices to those in need of equipment. Details below:

Zoom: To access Zoom, go to and login with your linkblue ID and password. Once in Zoom, we recommend department directors start their personal Zoom meeting room and send out a link to all department staff allowing them to connect to the room. See the Zoom video tutorial. Skype for Business: Most College staff should have some experience using Skype for Business, but if not, we will be posting a video tutorial here asap.

Microsoft Teams: Microsoft teams can be a great tool for departments to communicate organize their work, share files, etc. Teams can be accessed via the Office 365 portal We will be posting a video tutorial here asap. 

VPN & Remote Desktop: To access your files on the A&S File server you will need to first login to the UK VPN. If you have not yet registered your account for the UK VPN please follow the instructions found here: VPN Request for requesting access. After requesting access you should receive an email with instructions on downloading, installing and running the VPN Client. Once logged into the VPN follow the steps in this tutorial for mapping a drive to your server folder or if you prefer, this tutorial for logging into to your office PC with Remote Desktop: Home PC to Office PC or Mac to Office PC

Checkout Equipment: Due to limited resources, please be mindful of other users who absolutely need to check out the equipment. Please use any devices you currently have at your possession. If you have questions about your existing equipment, just let us know and we will gladly assist. Hive does have a limited supply of equipment (laptops, webcams, headsets with mic) available for checkout to those users who do not have equipment at home.
