As part of the fourth-year course offerings in the College of Medicine, this secondary acting internship is designed to provide students with an advanced level of direct patient care responsibility, greater than that required during a third-year clerkship or fourth-year elective. During this course, the student will assume direct responsibility for management of patient care, and with the appropriate oversight of supervising physicians, assume the responsibilities of a first-year intern. . Activities include (but are not limited to): performing the initial evaluation of patients, developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans, entering patient care orders, providing cross-coverage, and communicating with patients, family, and members of the healthcare team. To meet curricular demands, all students in the College of Medicine are required to own or have reliable access to a laptop computer meeting the minimum performance standards.
