This clinical experience focuses on comprehensive patient assessment, diagnosis and management of health problems commonly seen in acute and critical care. Emphasis will be placed on differentiating signs and symptoms to formulate possible diagnoses and determining the effect of the illness on the family. Students will demonstrate competence in assessing, diagnosing, managing and evaluating selected health problems based on appropriate standards of care. Health promotion and disease prevention strategies will be emphasized. In addition, the acute care nurse practitioner's role as a collaborative member of the health care team will be evaluated. Course requires 12 hours per week clinical (180 hours per semester).
