Commitment to Diversity
In recent years, the College of Arts and Sciences has placed the issue of diversity and equity at the forefront of its agenda. The college community has defined diversity widely, pressing for greater exposure and understanding of differences in race, ethnicity, gender, geography, sexual orientation, religion, creed, and physical ability. To help the university meet its diversity goals, the College of Arts and Sciences has undertaken a number of significant steps. A new diversity hiring policy was instituted. The college created a committee charged with enhancing the well-being of women faculty. In addition, new policies that specifically benefit previously marginalized groups of faculty, the inclusion of diversity resources on a newly created academic advising syllabus, and the expansion of diversity throughout the curriculum, are all examples of the College of Arts and Sciences commitment to diversity.
