Understanding Our Natural World

We interact with and impact the natural world every day. Spend this summer diving into a deeper understanding of Earth’s greatest resources and earn the Understanding Our Natural World badge! Through these courses, you will look at how systems interact with each other, how they shape ecosystems and landscapes, and how together they form the climate and biomes of the world.

There are no prerequisite courses or credit-hour minimums. Open to all UK students and anyone with a high school diploma. To earn the Understanding our Natural World badge, the online courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020. 

Choose two courses from:

  • BIO 102: Human Ecology – 6/11-8/5
  • GEO 130: Earth's Physical Environment – 6/25-8/5
  • EES 170: Blue Planet: Intro to Oceanography – 5/12-6/8

Criminology and Legal Studies

Are you interested in criminal justice, the legal profession, or the psychology of confessions? If so, the Criminology and Legal Studies badge is designed for you! These courses focus on criminal behavior, social conditions that increase crime risk, criminal investigation, and responses to criminal behavior.

There are no prerequisite courses or credit-hour minimums. Open to all UK students and anyone with a high school diploma. To earn the Criminology and Legal Studies badge, the online courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020.

Choose any two courses from the list below: 

  • PSY 320: Forensic Psychology – 5/12-6/8
  • PS 360: Politics of Law – 6/25-8/6
  • SOC 339: Intro to Criminology – 5/12-6/23
  • SOC 350: Victimology – 6/25-8/6
  • SOC 350: Crime and Disasters – 6/25-8/6

Professional skills

Take time this summer to polish your professional skills and enhance your resume! These courses are designed to help prepare you to succeed in the workplace and cover topics such as analyzing the job market, developing strong job search skills, business ethics, and much more.

There are no prerequisite courses or credit-hour minimums. Open to all UK students and anyone with a high school diploma. To earn the Professional Skills badge, the online courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020. 

Choose any two courses from: 

  • WRD 204 – Technical Writing (several sections)
  • PHI 334 – Business Ethics (2 sections)
  • A&S 350 – Personal Strengths and Your Career Development – 5/12-6/22

Globalization and the Modern World

Travel this summer from the comfort of your home and learn about the world by taking two courses for the Globalization and the Modern World badge! Through these courses, you will learn about cultural differences and develop global awareness.

There are no prerequisite courses or credit-hour minimums. Open to all UK students and anyone with a high school diploma. To earn the Globalization and the Modern World badge, the online courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020. 

Choose any two courses from the list below: 

  • GWS 302: Gender around the World – 5/12-6/9
  • ANT 311: Anthropology of Globalization – 5/12-6/23
  • SOC 350: Sex, Gender, and Childhood – 5/12-6/23
  • ANT 221: Native People of North America – 5/12-6/23

Health Policy Studies

As we live history during this unprecedented time, use this summer to gain an understanding of globalization, global health, epidemiology, the immune system, major pandemics of the 20th and 21st centuries, and the global attempts to confront current and future pandemics. Through these courses, you also consider ethical issues and the difficult choices generated by advances in biology, technology, and medicine, as well as issues of gender, health, and society.

There are no prerequisite courses or credit-hour minimums. Open to all UK students and anyone with a high school diploma. To earn the Health Policy Studies badge, the online courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020. 

Choose two courses from the list below: 

  • GEO 261: Geography of Health and Disease 6/11-8/6
  • SOC 350: Health, Gender, and Society – 6/25-8/6
  • PHI 305: Health care ethics – two sections
  • GWS 302: Gender around the World – 5/12-6/9

Sports and Society 

From little league to college and professional athletics, sports play a significant role in many cultures and societies. Learn about the role of sports around the world and here in our own backyard. These two courses provide a cultural and historical look at what many in the world consider their favorite pastime - sports.

There are no prerequisite courses or credit-hour minimums. Open to all UK students and anyone with a high school diploma. To earn the Sport and Society badge, the online courses must be started and completed during Summer 2020.
