Summer Internship Fellowships for A&S Majors

  • The John W. Boone Fund for Summer Internships
  • The John Calhoun Wells Eastern Kentucky Scholars Fund

Thanks to the generosity of alumni John W. Boone and John Calhoun Wells, the College of Arts & Sciences is delighted to announce that we are accepting applications for fellowships supporting unpaid internships in Summer 2022.

The competition to apply for A&S Summer Internship Fellowships is now open. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, ending May 15, 2022. Individual student fellowships of $1,000- $3,000 will be awarded to students who have offers of an unpaid summer internship of at least 6 weeks (see eligibility criteria below). Students who are funded will be required to submit a report on their internship experience, and must be willing to present a brief presentation of their experience to faculty and alumni in 2022-23.

Students applying for this support must secure an internship for themselves; this fellowship opportunity does not itself provide an internship. See sidebar for recommendations on how to seek out internship opportunities, or contact the director of undergraduate studies in your department.

The application also requires a letter of recommendation from a faculty member; after the student submits an application, the faculty member will receive an email request for a recommendation, which is due by May 15, 2022.

Internships increase a student’s overall knowledge, critical thinking, and ethical and civic responsibility.

  • The John W. Boone Fund provides support for students who want to build their professional resume, adapt new technology skills, and collaborate in a hands-on immersive learning experience outside their current research opportunites on campus, but may lack the resources to do so.
  • The John Calhoun Wells Eastern Kentucky Scholars Fund supports internships and/or participation in service-learning or community-based learning experiences for A&S students from Eastern Kentucky.

Students will submit one single application, and will be considered for any opportunities for which they are eligible.
