Chemistry Regional Poster Competition & Dawson Lecture 2015

On Friday, April 17th 2015, the Department of Chemistry hosted the Eighteenth Annual Lyle Ramsay Dawson Lecture. The Lecture was given by Geoffrey Coates of Cornell University on the topic of New Polymers from Old Monomers: Advances Enabled through Catalyst Design.

This year, the Dawson Lecture was also used as a platform for students to expand their academic abilities by presenting their research findings at the UK Regional Undergraduate Poster Competition. The UK Regional Undergraduate Poster Competition garnered attention from students across the Midwest.

A UK Pharmacy student, Josephine Kim, was presented with the first place award for her poster titled Enzymatic evidence for a revised congocidine biosynthetic pathway. A Berea College student, Pyae Phyo, was presented with the second place award for her poster titled Quantification of local bonding environments in cesium-silicate glasses using Si-29 magic-angle flipping NMR.

There were also three posters that received an Honorable Mention: the first presented by Steven Chapman of the University of Kentucky, the second presented by Ashleigh Skiles & Jayesh Lalla of Indiana University Kokomo, and the third presented by Jenna Garofolo of the University of Kentucky.
