Student Spotlight

Hi! I’m Tasha! I’m a senior English major with a minor in Communication. I grew up in a small town called Utica, Ohio where I graduated from Utica High School in 2012. My family has always been amazingly supportive and has always encouraged me to pursue my dreams - even if that meant moving a state away from them! As an English major, I LOVE to read. I’m currently reading Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield in my spare time. I also enjoy running, doing yoga, baking, and spending time with my wonderful boyfriend, Daniel, and our cat, Catsby (named after The Great Gatsby, of course). I love UK, but I’m excited to graduate!

Four years ago, if you were to ask every person that I graduated high school with what college I was going to, they probably all would’ve have told you the University of Kentucky. It was widely known that I was the only UK fan surrounding by a bunch of Ohio State fanatics. My mom jokingly says my dad brainwashed me to like UK. And maybe she’s right, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. For me, coming to UK was a dream come true.

I work in the HIVE (Creative & Technical Services). I started working there in December 2014. I do a little bit of everything. I am primarily an editor for the creative team, so I edit any print content that we design (posters, fliers, brochures, booklets, etc..). I load banners and feature stories on to the A&S website. I write text for various projects. I handled our social media accounts for a brief period. I’m also the design project manager for this semester, so I’m a liaison between the design team and faculty who have a design request.

I honestly do not have enough words to cover how employment in A&S has prepared me for my future career. My job at the HIVE has given me so much experience in such a short amount of time. I feel much more confident that I can succeed in an editing career. I never imagined that I would be doing what I do now as just a student employee. The student employment provided by A&S is so much more than a typical student job. I like to think that as an editor, my suggestions and insights are always heard and considered important.
