LOCK YOUR DOORS AND SECURE YOUR VALUABLES WHEN AWAY FROM THE OFFICE!  Yesterday, one of our A&S advisors had a wallet stolen while they were away from the office.

A friend in the College, Dr. Chana Akins (Department of Psychology), is conducting a survey on staff recognition for a UK leadership project and she would appreciate your help.  The survey should take less than five minutes of your time and it is anonymous.  She will present the results at a leadership conference later this year as well as to the A&S Faculty-Staff Collegiality Committee.  Chana welcomes your input in the survey before October 30.  The survey link is at Staff Appreciation Measures Survey

The annual UK United Way fundraising campaign is during the month of October.  Be on the lookout for more specific information about this and how you can choose to support in the days ahead.

An individual must be employed by UK on or before Sunday, October 29, 2017 in a regular full-time or part-time position, in order to receive the special holidays/bonus days this year.  Regular part-time employees will be granted holiday benefits on a pro-rated basis.  The 2017-2018 Official Staff Holiday Schedule is at

The A&S Staff Council pulled off another successful Big Blue blood drive last month by helping to collect 187 units of blood.  The Staff Council thanks everyone that was able to donate last month and appreciates your support.  The next blood drive is scheduled for November 14 with more information forthcoming from the A&S Staff Council.

In August I started a 3-year stint as an A&S representative (Senator) on the UK Staff Senate.  The Staff Senate meets every month.  My Staff Senate committee assignment is with the “Issues Committee”.  This committee gives me the opportunity to take issues that are brought to me by A&S Staff and bring them up for discussion in the committee as well as the entire Staff Senate body, and to initiate follow-up actions as needed.  Some recent issues discussed by the committee focused on parking, mopeds on walkways, TDL accrual, and PEs.  If you have something to pass on to me please put it in writing and email it me, or stop by and visit in person with me.   At September’s Staff Senate meeting one of the highlights was a UK Police Department update provided by Chief Joe Monroe.  He indicated that there are four key areas of their operations that they are working to upgrade.  These areas include more video cameras across campus, increased building access control, consolidated ID Badge operations and an enhanced campus early warning system via UK Alert.  Future goals of the department include virtual patrol capability on campus, live streaming of body cams and police car cameras, body armor alerts from officers, and dispatching using dynamic GPS.
