One of the most respected American scholarly authority on Islam, John L. Esposito, will visit the University of Kentucky Wednesday to discuss “The Future of Islam: Assessing the Elements of Reform, Revival, and Fundamentalism in the Muslim World.” The community is invited to attend his presentation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Singletary Center Recital Hall.

Known for his work in organic chemistry and as a father of insect and human birth control, Carl Djerassi will take part in several events being held Feb. 13-15, at UK.

The 3rd Anniversary Celebration Concert will spotlight string music, the pipa, martial arts and other musical talents from Shanghai. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Singletary Center.

A&S will induct new members into its Hall of Fame Oct. 11, 2013, to join the ranks of the current 32 alumni and 8 emeritus faculty A&S Hall of Fame members.

In conjunction with the Art Museum at the University of Kentucky exhibition Curves in Math, Waves in Glass, Origami and Glass Works, father-son team, Martin Demaine and Erik Demaine, will discuss the relationship of art and mathematics in a lecture scheduled April 24. David M. Walker, who served as comptroller general of the United States and head of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) from 1998 to 2008, will address students, faculty, and the general public at 7:00 tonight.

A composition by UK music, film and Spanish sophomore Ben Norton has been selected for the Lexington Philharmonic's New Music Experiment, which is highlighting new work from composers. The work will be part of a workshop early next week and will be showcased at a concert on Feb. 17, at Singletary Center for the Arts.
