Friday Geek Week Events Still Scheduled

The following Friday events for Geek Week 2008 will still take place as scheduled.

6:00 p.m.  “Reading Bones”
Room 153 Chemistry-Physics Building, Dr. James Krupa, A&S Department of Biology

Just like current TV shows, come and see how you can look at bones and read them. By reading them  one can determine what the animal ate, where it lived, how it moved, etc. We can read the animal’s ecology and behavior right off the bones…actually, mostly from skulls!  Find out what indicates a creature is an herbivore, carnivore, predator, omnivore, fish eater, grass eater, bone crusher, etc.  This will really be a lot of fun.

7:15 p.m.:  Chemical Reaction Attraction
Room 139, Chemistry-Physics Building, Dr. Jim Holler, Jack Selegue, Ed Duhr

Elephant toothpaste, spontaneous combustion, explosions large and small, the famous electric pickle and the Chernobyl reaction!

Due to inclement weather on Thursday, the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences postponed two events scheduled for Feb. 21. The lecture "The Joys and Perils of International Research and Teaching," by Frank Ettehnson and the keynote address by author Gurney Norman were both canceled. Both events will be rescheduled at a later date.
