The Department of Mathematics welcomes five new faculty members this fall. David Royster (Ph.D., LUS, 1978) joins the department as the Mathematics Outreach Professor at the rank of associate professor. David has been on the math faculty at the UNC-Charlotte since 1982. Jeffrey Ovall (Ph.D., UC-San Diego, 2004), a staff scientist/lecturer from Cal Tech, joins our faculty as assistant professor. His research interests are in the areas of numerical analysis and scientific computing. The Department also welcomes three lecturers: Paul Koester (Ph.D., Washington Univ., 2007), John Maki (Ph.D., UIUC, 2009, expected), and Michael Shaw (Ph.D., Univ. of Alabama, 1997).
