Joan Callahan Awarded Distinguished Woman Philosopher Award, UK President’s Award for Diversity
Professor Emeritus Joan Callahan was awarded the Distinguished Woman Philosopher Award by the Society for Women in Philosophy (2007). She joins a long list of distinguished women philosophers who have received the award, dating back to 1984. A session was held at the Eastern Division American Philosophical Association on Professor Callahan’s professional work. The panelists who took part in the session were Anne Donchin, Eric Smaw (one of Professor Callahan’s Ph.D. students who now teaches at Rollins College), Pat Smith (a former UK professor in the Philosophy Department), Anita Superson, Rosemarie Tong, and Nancy Tuana.
The panelists were unanimous in their praise of Professor Callahan’s passionate work in the profession and the university and department, and for her dedication to her students. Professor Callahan also received the University of Kentucky President’s Award for Diversity in 2008.
