Chrystal Grey Receives $15,000 Fellowship from the Southern Regional Education Board

Chrystal Grey, a doctoral candidate in UK’s Department of Sociology is the recipient of a $15,000 Dissertation Year Fellowship Award from the Southern Regional Education Board.

“I am excited at the opportunity that the SREB award presents in terms of aiding me in completing my dissertation research and in fulfilling my goals of continued scholarly research and teaching”, Grey states. The title of Grey’s dissertation is Strategies for and Perceptions of Success: A Study of African-American and Afro-Caribbean Social Mobility.

“The topic of this research project is an extension of my master’s research, which focused on the push/pull factors for Jamaican immigration to the United Kingdom and the United States. The goal of the current research is to compare two somewhat similar groups and illustrate the ways in which they are similar but also to uncover differences and examine the factors which lie behind those differences.”
