“Practicing Anthropology: Reflections from a Career in the International Arena”
Forty years ago, applied anthropologist, Dr. Margaret Lantis, invited young Bill Jansen II, an undergraduate anthropology major a UK, to conduct ethnographic research with Inuit in the Canadian arctic.
From that experience, an international career in applied anthropology was born. Dr.William H Jansen II has spent his career as a practicing anthropologist working in both governmental (e.g., USAID) and nongovernmental settings primarily to strengthen health care services in developing countries. Assignment countries have included the Philippines, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Jordan and Morocco. Other settings where he has conducted ethnographic research include Yupik and Inupiat speaking villages in Alaska; several islands in the Philippines; Sri Lanka; Bangladesh; and Thailand.
