Public Invited to Epic Events

Noted film and television actor Eldon Quick will present a free public performance of book one of Homer’s “The Iliad” at 7 p.m., Sept. 8, in the Worsham Theater, located in the University of Kentucky Student Center. In conjunction with the rare live performance, the following week the public is invited to a reading of the entire epic poem as several community leaders, local celebrities and students will present "The Iliad" on campus Sept. 15.

The performance of book one of "The Iliad" in English features Quick, who started his professional acting career at the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Conn. The actor has more than 50 television and film credits ranging from performances in the Academy Award-winning “In the Heat of the Night” to cult favorite “Doc Savage - Man of Bronze.” Quick's UK performance will run approximately one hour in length. The following week's reading of "The Iliad" by members of the local and university communities will run from 9 a.m. to midnight Monday, Sept. 15, on the lawn outside the Singletary Center for the Arts northwest entrance on Euclid Avenue. This event will also be presented in English. In the event of rain, the reading will move to the President's Room in the Singletary Center.
