Internships are a great way to apply the skills and perspectives you have gained in Sociology to assist community groups and to gain valuable work experience and contacts. You may apply up to six credit hours of SOC 399: Internship in Sociology toward your Sociology major requirements. Pursuing an internship requires: 1) finding a placement in a community group, government agency or corporation; 2) identifying a faculty mentor; 3) filling out a learning contract which specifies your work hours, goals, assignments, grading criteria and number of credit hours, etc.; and 4) enrolling in the SOC 399 during pre-registration.
In other words, you need to prepare ahead of time for an internship. For assistance in doing this, you should contact our academic advisor, Jim Cousins at jpcous2@email.uky.edu or DUS, Dr. James Hougland at jghoug2@email.uky.edu. Also, visit the Stuckert Career Center and contact Jamie Johnson at jjjohn4@email.uky.edu for assistance in locating an internship placement.
