Sociology majors receive guidance from a full-time professional academic advisor, who monitors student progress and assists students in planning future coursework. The advisor is a valuable resource, able to guide students through their chosen plan of study, suggest different avenues of academic enrichment, and direct students towards appropriate university resources.
Office
The Sociology Department Advising Office is located in 102A Lafferty Hall (between the Whitehall Classroom Building and the Fine Arts Library). The Advising Office serves not only Sociology majors, but also Anthropology majors and those seeking minors in either of these two disciplines.
Registration
The Sociology Advising Office will be open from 8:30-12 and 1-4:30 throughout the priority registration period. Because of the high demand placed on advising services during this period, appointments are required. If you are Sociology major, you may make an appointment online: www.as.uky.edu/advising/sasy/. If you are not a sociology major but would like to speak with the advisor. call or email Jim Cousins (jpcous2@uky.edu - 257-7775).

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, received my B.A. from The Ohio State University, and moved to Kentucky for my graduate education. I completed my M.A. in history and have since taught courses at UK, Kentucky State, Berea College and EKU. I’m excited to be part of the Arts and Sciences advising team as the academic advisor for the departments of sociology and anthropology. Although much of my free time is taken up with research and writing, I enjoy camping, hiking, and playing as much golf as possible.
