Research

Professor Harris's research examines the causes and consequences of rural poverty and regional inequality. Her interests include sociology of health, poverty, and sociology of agriculture.

Selected Publications

Dr. Harris's most recent work has appeared in Rural Sociology, Choices, The Review of Black Political Economy, Blacks in Rural America, Rural Development Perspectives, Encyclopedia of Rural America, Agriculture and Human Values, Southern Rural Sociology, and New Look Mathlsedi. Dr. Harris is currently working on a project titled Service Sector Penetration in Rural Communities with Drs. Ann Tickamyer and Clarence Talley. Through in-depth interviews with household members in Kentucky and Florida they are attempting to characterize the diverse strategies used to cope with the shifting economic realities in the rural South.
