ResearchProfessor Harris's research examines the causes and consequences of rural poverty and regional inequality. Her interests include sociology of health, poverty, and sociology of agriculture.

Service Sector Penetration in Rural Communities with Drs. Ann Tickamyer and Clarence Talley. Through in-depth interviews with household members in Kentucky and Florida they are attempting to characterize the diverse strategies used to cope with the shifting economic realities in the rural South.
