Annual Research Funding – over $4.3 million in 2007
The Department of Psychology at UK is ranked first nationally in percent growth in external research funding bringing in $4.5 million in 2006.
In the last five years the department has brought in over $17.7 million dollars in research placing it second only to Mathematics in the College.
There are over 30 faculty members in the department and currently 16 are either principal investigators or co-investigators on 18 different grants.
Faculty research programs are supported by a wide variety of external national agencies, including NIH, NIMH, NIAAA, NIDA, NICH, NIA, and U.S. Department of Education.
The state received 19 fellowships with five of them being in the psychology department as well as two minority supplements in the past two years.
The Department of Psychology is strongly committed to interdisciplinary scholarship and research, and has a long history of effective collaboration with other UK colleges and departments.

An example of this collaborative effort is the Center for Drug Abuse Research Translation (CDART), a multimillion dollar multi-disciplinary Center grant funded from NIH. The CDART brings together faculty from such colleges and departments as Psychology, Pharmacy, Behavioral Sciences, Biostatistics, Public Health, Anatomy and Neurobiology, and Communication. Psychology professors are also tied to several training grants that are funded by NIH.
These collaborations provide students and faculty with interests in these multidisciplinary fields an opportunity to cooperate in research and training.
