Declaring Major & Getting and Advisor
There are three (3) ways in which a student may declare political science as his/her undergraduate major:
1) Upon entering the University of Kentucky for the first time, a student may declare political science as a major on his/her application form.
2) A student who has entered the University of Kentucky as an undeclared major or as a major in another department in Arts & Sciences may declare political science as his/her major by completing a Change of College/Declaration of Major form in the Arts & Sciences Student Records Office, Room 257 Patterson Office Tower. The student MUST ask Arts & Sciences for a copy of his/her records (i.e. transcripts, University forms, etc.) to be given to a Political Science Advisor.
3) A student who has declared a major in another college on our campus may declare political science his/her major by notifying the staff in the current college dean's office. The student completes a Change of College/Declaration of Major form declaring political science his/her intended major. The dean's office staff would then send the student with his/her records to the Political Science Department.
Obtaining an Academic Advisor
Upon declaring Political Science as a major, a student may request an academic advisor in Political Science by completing a Request for a Faculty Advisor form in our main office -- 1615 POT.

You should do your homework before meeting with your advisor. Do not expect the advisor to do your planning for you. The advisor can answer questions and review your schedule and various forms before you submit them, but do not expect him/her to do your work for you.
