Research Interests
Interaction of highly excited (Rydberg-state) atoms with charged particles and fields. Coherence effects in collisions. Alignment and orientation in electron-atom and ion-atom collisions. Precision fine-structure spectroscopy of highly excited states. Collisions of coherent elliptic, circular and Stark Rydberg states. Laboratory measurement of collision processes relevant to the interstellar medium. Relationship of quantal, semi-classical and classical theoretical formulations of the Three-Body Problem applied to atomic collisions. Advanced instrumentation and techniques for research in highly excited atoms.
