High School Mathematics Day

The second edition of High School Mathematics Day will be held on Saturday, 17 October 2009. This event features a half-day of activities for high school students with an interest in mathematics. We will begin with an individual problem solving competition. All problems will be accessible to students who have studied algebra and geometry and many will only require a good command of arithmetic. The problems will require students to think creatively and use these elementary tools in new and creative ways. Students will not be able to use calculators during the contest. Prizes will be awarded to top individuals and to the top school.

The rest of the morning will feature presentations and hands on activities with UK faculty and students that introduce students to some new mathematics and applications of mathematics. High School Mathematics Day will take place in the Raymond Student Commons in the Ralph G. Anderson Building on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

There is no charge for this event, but spaces are limited. Thus we ask students to pre-register for High School Mathematics Day. A registration form and a flyer to post in classrooms are available below.
