Academic Advising

The College of Arts & Sciences recognizes the value of and importance of quality academic advising for undergraduate students. To ensure a timely graduation, students in the College of Arts & Sciences meet regularly with a professional academic advisor. The advisor helps students identify academic goals, understand curriculum, select appropriate courses, utilize campus resources and explore co-curricular opportunities. In addition to the academic advisor, students are encouraged to identify faculty mentors during their undergraduate career.

I became an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences at UK in December 2004 after earning a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education – French and a master’s degree in Higher Education from The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). I grew up near St. Louis, Mo., and after high school decided it was time to spread my wings and try something new. Initially my transition to college so far from home was quite rocky, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

One of the things I love best about advising language and international studies majors is the fantastic conversations I have with students every day. Of course we talk about which classes to take and how to navigate the university system, but the fun stuff is talking about travel and study abroad; internships and career possibilities; how to make a difference in the lives of others; and figuring out how to tap into their passions. Every day I try to help students find a way to realize their own personal goals. What could be better?

Walk-in Advising Services
