Education Abroad

It’s a natural that IS majors should travel, study or work abroad: indeed, while not a requirement of the IS major, it is an expectation of IS majors.  In her years at UK, IS director Dr. Udvardy has facilitated education abroad opportunities for dozens of majors to all corners of the world.  While there has been an occasional snaffu or stomach bug, not a single UK major has ever regretted the experience – on the contrary, the usual response upon return is: “My experience was AWESOME!!!”

Ideally, IS majors should plan for their sophomore or junior year to include an abroad experience. (Remember, UK students are expected to spend their last semester before graduation on the UK campus.)  Explore the diversity of abroad opportunities at the Education Abroad office!

Education Abroad at UK

UK students may choose from thousands of education abroad options, which include a wide range of program types, lengths, costs and other details.  UK students have studied in over 60 different countries during the past several years.  All federal financial support and most institutional support may be applied toward a credit-bearing education abroad program.  All students must apply through Education Abroad (EA) at UK.  Our EA advisors help you find the perfect program.  Where do YOU want to go?

Students interested in studying abroad must attend an IDEA Session. These sessions are the first step in the Education Abroad process. You’ll learn about the variety of opportunities available to you as a UK student to incorporate an international academic experience into your program of studies. The entire process of Education Abroad, from application, through your overseas experience, to incorporating your experience into your résumé will be explained. We provide information on financial matters, including financial aid and which types of programs will best fit your budget. Academic matters, including credit transfer and approval of UK course equivalencies, are also discussed.

You'll be amazed how easy it is to study abroad. Find out now so you do not regret missing your chance. The earlier you start investigating and planning your Education Abroad experience, the easier it is to maximize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

IDEA Sessions are held regularly each semester on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-4pm in 207 Bradley Hall.

For more information about opportunities to study abroad, visit the Education Abroad website, visit their offices on the first floor of Bradley Hall or email EducationAbroad@uky.edu.

The Education Abroad Library, with extensive program and travel information, is open weekdays from 8:00 – 5:00.
