College of Arts & Sciences International Travel Grants

Up to two A&S International Travel Grants will be awarded to candidates during the summer. Applicants must:

• be an undergraduate major in either History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, or the International Studies Program.
• NOT be attending any other program, independent study or travel in Europe during, before, or after the summer.
• have junior or senior academic status at the time of travel.
• have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0.
• enroll in Independent Work in the chosen major.
• have a minimum stay in Europe of 16 days and visit designated cities and sites.

Education Abroad at UK Scholarships

Education Abroad at UK awards over $75,000 each year in need-based scholarships.  Awards range from $500- $1500 per term.  Eligible students must demonstrate both financial need and academic merit.  There are two annual application cycles:  October 1 application deadline for Winter and Spring programs; March 1 application deadline for Summer and Fall programs.

• NSEP David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships
  NSEP awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.
• Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes
  The Program is part of the National Security Language Initiative (NSLI), a U.S. government interagency effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages. Scholarship recipients - U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master's and Ph.D. students and recent graduates - receive funding to participate in beginning, intermediate and advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers and affiliated partners. Recipients are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period and later apply their critical language skills in their professional careers.
• Freeman-Asia Awards for Study in Asia
  The Freeman-ASIA Award Program is designed to support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning on studying overseas in East or Southeast Asia.
• Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
  A congressionally funded program offered through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education - offers a competition for awards for study abroad, for US citizen students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding.
• Transitions Abroad
  Essential programs, articles, resources and websites for those who wish to study abroad or pursue lifelong educational travel overseas. Since 1977, Transitions Abroad has explored in-depth the many independent and organized educational opportunities overseas for students of all ages and with all budgets.
• Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship
  The Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial, and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. The Pickering Undergraduate Fellowship selects undergraduate students in their sophomore year.
