Advising

The College of Arts and Sciences recognizes the value of academic advising and has made a commitment to provide accurate advising information. Regardless of their Arts & Sciences major, all first year students and students with fewer than 30 earned hours are advised by professional advisors in the A&S Advising Center, located on the second floor of Patterson Office Tower. If you are in this category, click here to find your advisor.

If you have 30 hours or more of course credit, you will be advised by Christine Blank, the professional advisor in the Department of History. Christine advises all sophomore, junior, and senior History majors, and is located in 1723 Patterson Office Tower.

I earned my master’s degree in higher education from UK and my bachelor’s degree from Asbury College, with a major in sociology and double minor in business and Spanish.  I have worked in different areas of student affairs, such as admissions at Transylvania University, residence life while working on my master’s degree at UK, and one of the TRIO programs (Educational Talent Search) at what was then Lexington Community College.  I also spent a brief stint as the Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Hospice of the Bluegrass before beginning my job as an advisor in the College of Arts & Sciences in March 1999.  I have enjoyed my time as an advisor, and have found I can learn a lot from my students, as well as the other way around!

The History advisor works with students on course selection, career preparation, internships, and study abroad opportunities, as well as providing information with regard to procedures such as repeat options and applying for graduation. Many questions can be handled in consultation with your History advisor, but in some cases, your request may be referred to the History Administrative Assistant, Kari Burchfield (859-257-6861), or the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr .Tracy Campbell.  (859-257-7811).

To receive academic advising, you will need to schedule an advising appointment via an online appointment scheduling system. Upon logging in, you will be automatically directed to the assigned advisor’s calendar where you will see all the available advising times. Once you select a time slot, the appointment is automatically added to the advisor’s calendar. Be sure you write down the appointment time you have selected so that you do not miss your appointment. Click here to enter the online appointment scheduling system.
