The Graduate School makes available each year awards of no more than $400 for students to deliver papers at professional meetings and undertake research in archives and libraries. Contact the director of graduate studies for questions about the availability and the application process, or review them on the web.
The department also makes available financial support to assist students in defraying travel costs incurred while doing research in domestic and foreign archives and meeting expenses incurred in presenting papers at professional meetings. Funds for research travel are usually limited to students who have passed their doctoral qualifying examinations and have an approved prospectus on file. Decisions are based on the amount of money available, the demand by students for research and travel support, the importance of the request to a student’s program of study, and the quality of the previous work by the applicant.
