Research


Eric Howard Christianson pursued undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico and the University of Southern California. Before receiving his doctorate in 1976 from USC, he worked as a diving technologist for the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History and spent a year studying for a Diploma in the History of Medicine at St. Catherine's College, Cambridge University. He teaches courses for undergraduates and graduate students in U.S. history, and post-1700 history of science, health, technology, and environment.

His current research interests include a monograph on Transylvania University's Medical Department, 1799-1859, an historical study of the dietary prodromes for Coronary Heart Disease in the region, and continuing work on environmental knowledge and behavior in the Kentucky River Drainage Basin.
