History-Specific Funds

We want the educational opportunities for history students at the University of Kentucky to be as good as those for students at any other institution in the country.  Your support for the UK Department of History helps us provide opportunities for our outstanding undergraduate and graduate students.  All contributions to the UK Department of History are tax deductible.

History Department Development Fund
Provides discretionary funds for scholarships, enrichment activities, travel, and other needs as determined by the department chair.

Lance Banning Graduate Research Fellowship Fund
Supports stipends, conference expenses and research-related travel for exceptional graduate students working in early American history.

Susan Bushart and Richard L. Cardwell Endowed Fund
Supports a variety of purposes including equipment purchases, lectures, seminars and recruitment of faculty and students.

Dorothy “Dottie” Leathers Fellowship Fund
Award for outstanding graduate students.

Charles P. Roland Fellowship Fund
Supports graduate student research in American History.

Albisetti Dissertation Fellowship Fund
Supports dissertation research conducted overseas.

George C. Herring Graduate Fellowship Fund
Supports graduate students preparing for their exams, writing a dissertation or undertaking extensive travel research.

Graduate Alumni Teaching Incentive Grant
Provides financial assistance, an a competitive basis, to graduate students and instructors involved in special projects to enhance the quality of teaching.

Philo Bennett Award
Established in 1915.  Encourages excellence in the writing of history through a cash prize given to the author of best undergraduate essay.
