SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

Zembrod Fellowship
The Department of Hispanic Studies awards annually the Zembrod Fellowship to students who will have junior status at the time of taking up the award. The award, up to $1000, is to be used towards on-campus tuition or education related expenses and/or study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country (plans to be approved by the Department of Hispanic Studies).

Criteria for the Zembrod Fellowship are as follow:

  1. Candidates must be Spanish majors, Education majors or FLIE majors.
  2. Candidates must have junior or senior status at the time of taking up the award (sophomores may therefore apply).
  3. Candidates must have completed 6 hours of Spanish courses at the 300-level or above prior to taking up the award.
  4. Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA overall and at least a 3.0 GPA in Spanish.

Applications, which should consist of a 2-3 page essay in Spanish outlining the candidate's plans for spending the award as well as an explanation of the benefit this will bring to their studies, should be submitted by the announced deadline to:

Zembrod Award
An annual award of $200 is awarded to an outstanding graduating senior of the Department of Hispanic Studies.

Sigma Delta Pi Scholarships
Members of Sigma Delta Pi are eligible to apply for scholarships. For further information, contact Dr. Aníbal Biglieri (contact information listed above).

Office of International Affairs Scholarships
Two OIA Semester Scholarships of $1750 are awarded for a semester of year-long programs offered by University of Kentucky colleges and departments and including the CIEE program in Seville.

One OIA Summer Scholarship of up to $1000 is in use in Summer Programs offered by University of Kentucky departments, and including the KIIS programs to Spain and Mexico. Only students wih no previous travel abroad are eligible.

In order to apply for these scholarships you must be enrolled in UK at time of application and at least a sophomore status during study abroad. The deadline is the last day of classes in December. For more information:

Travelling Scholars Grants
Grants of up to $750 are awarded for independent research to be conducted abroad or in the U.S. outside of Kentucky. This award is not applicable to a structured study abroad program. In order to apply for these grants you must have at least sophomore status. The deadline is November 10 for projects to be undertaken in the Spring semester and March 10 for projects in the Summer or Fall semesters.
