SPANISH UNDERGRADUATE ADVISING INFORMATION
Good academic advising is important in helping to develop a course of study that is appropriate for your academic background and abilities, and is consistent with your educational and career goals. Faculty and professional advisors not only help to ensure that you take appropriate courses to satisfy degree requirements, but also serve as mentors and assist in developing the richest degree program possible.
Who your advisor is depends primarily on your academic classification. All Arts & Sciences students with fewer than 30 earned hours are assigned to a professional advisor in the A&S Advising Center, 257 Patterson Office Tower. Please visit the Advising Center website for more information.
For all Spanish majors with more than 30 earned hours you are assigned a professional advisor in the Hispanic Studies Department. The academic advisor is available to discuss course requirements, progress to degree, campus opportunities, lifting holds and other academic issues. Every Spanish major must meet with the academic advisor a minimum of once per semester for registration. Advising appointments can be scheduled online. If you are considering a major or minor in Spanish but have not yet declared it officially please contact the advisor by phone or email.

I became an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences at UK in December 2005 after earning a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education – French and a master’s degree in Higher Education from The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). I grew up near St. Louis, Mo., and after high school decided it was time to spread my wings and try something new. Initially my transition to college so far from home was quite rocky, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
One of the things I love best about advising language and international studies majors is all of the fantastic conversations I get to have every day with students. Of course we talk about which classes to take and how to navigate the university system, but the fun stuff is talking about travel and study abroad; internships and career possibilities; how to make a difference in the lives of others; and figuring out how to tap into your passion! All day I try to help students find a way to realize their own personal goals. What could be better?
