The Tech Atelier digital development studio provides faculty and graduate students in Hispanic Studies with state-of-the-art resources for integrating digital technology into their teaching and research. High-end multimedia and computing equipment is available for project development in the Atelier, and portable electronic devices can be checked out for off-site use in research and teaching.

The Atelier supports a broad range of curricular and research projects. Recent work in the Atelier has included: creation of audio testing materials; authoring of multimedia online exercises; filming and editing of cultural materials; video recording of student teaching sessions; preservation of teaching and research materials from older formats (VHS, audio cassette, film, prints, and slides); development of digital humanities grant projects; production of audio and video proceedings of professional conferences.

The Tech Atelier is an inter-departmental initiative of the Department of Hispanic Studies and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, implemented under the direction of Dr. Mark Richard Lauersdorf, Director of Language Technology. Funding for the construction and equipping of the Atelier has been provided by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, the Department of Hispanic Studies, and various internal and external grants awarded to the departments and to individual departmental faculty.

Situated on the 10th floor of Patterson Office Tower, the facility officially opened its doors in September 2007.
