Undergraduate Program

Advising

All majors will be assigned a faculty advisor who will be available for consultation about the intellectual content of the major, graduate school, etc. However, only the advisors in the Advising Office can lift advisor holds.

Office

The English Department Advising Office in Patterson Office Tower 1225/27/29 is a center for information and guidance on undergraduate degree programs and post-graduation planning. The Advising Office serves not only English and Linguistics majors, but also those students working on a minor in English or Linguistics, those seeking Teacher Certification in English, and students from any area of the University seeking information or advice on English Department courses. (Inquiries about freshman writing courses should be directed to the Writing Program Office, P.O.T. 1221.)

Registration

The English Advising Office will be open from 8:30-12 and 1-4:30 throughout the priority registration period. Because of the demands made upon the office during this period, appointments are required. If you are an English or Linguistics major, you may make an appointment online here: or you may contact your advisor directly. The Department advisors are Nayasha Walker Farrior and Leah Bayens. If you have any questions, please contact Staff Associate Andy Johnson in P.O.T. 1227 (phone: 257-3763). Students are strongly encouraged to see the advisor as early as possible.

PLEASE NOTE:  Contact Anna Rice at Anna.Rice@uky.edu or Aaron Vaught Aaron.Vaught@uky.edu for advising assistance while Nayasha Farrior is on leave.

Continue to schedule advising appointments with Leah Bayens using the A&S Advising appointment system.

Students who have reason to think that their scheduling is going to present special problems, or whose educational objectives are not clear, or who have complex questions about degree requirements, or who have not yet reviewed their degree program with the English Department advisor, should see their advisor as soon as possible.
