About the Department

The English Department at the University of Kentucky offers an undergraduate degree in literature; master’s degrees with concentrations in literature, film, and linguistics; and a Ph.D. degree in literature. We administer the Writing Program, the Writing Center, and the Center for English as a Second Language. Our faculty engage in American and British literary studies, non-fiction writing, film history and criticism, linguistics, and imaginative writing. As interdisciplinary scholars and teachers, we contribute to the Committee on Social Theory and to programs including Gender and Women's Studies, Indian Culture, Cognitive Science, American Studies, and Africana Studies. If you are interested in our programs or our research, please contact us and make an appointment to visit.
