The mission of the Department of English is to be a program recognized nationally for the high quality of its teaching and research across a range of fields: literary studies, non-fiction writing, film studies, linguistics, and imaginative writing. We seek to provide instruction and service of the highest order to undergraduate and graduate students, both our own majors and the larger university population. We seek to encourage among all faculty scholarly research that makes significant contributions to disciplinary knowledge and fully informs our work in the classroom.
