Students showing outstanding potential in research may apply for a Beckman Research Fellowship. The Beckman Fellowship is among the most prestigious nationwide awards available to undergraduates. It supports students for one academic year and two summers of independent research. At present, the University of Kentucky holds a Beckman award from which two fellowships of about $18,000 each are disbursed yearly.

The Department of Biology recognizes exceptional research activity with $1,500/year Ribble Research Scholarships awarded to biology majors on the basis of academic and research potential. Ribble Scholars must spend at least one year in a biology department faculty member’s laboratory engaged in independent research. When you click on the Ribble Research Scholarship link to download the application, and you receive a place to enter a password, click cancel and you will receive the application in a word document. Sorry for the inconvenience, this is being corrected.

The UK-NOYCE Fellowship program is a financial assistance program supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) that provides academic scholarship support for seniors and graduate students majoring in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) discipline and seeking to become teachers in mathematics and/or science. College juniors, college seniors, or graduate students (including post-baccalaureate) students may apply for up to two (2) years for the fellowship support.
