Research

My research encompasses Population Dynamics and Evolutionary Theory. My main interest is to integrate evolution with ecological dynamics for examining mechanisms that promote differentiation between populations. Current research is addressing the effects of gene flow and local adaptations for studying the spatial distribution of species. This study uses a quantitative genetic approach and is analyzed by mathematical modeling. Another research interest applies basic concepts of population biology to epidemiology. Present work in this area evaluates theoretically the uses of biological agents for constraining pathogens within individuals. In particular, this study analyzes the dynamics and efficiency of an engineered virus for controlling the human immunodeficiency virus population within an individual. I welcome students and colleagues for developing collaborative projects concerning these areas of research.
