Research
As an adjunct faculty member in Biology I teach sections of the large enrollment introductory Biology courses for non-science majors. With an educational background in Biology and Educational Psychology and a professional background that includes twenty years of faculty and instructional development work and thirty years of teaching Biology, I am interested in instructional innovation that fosters learning, particularly as it applies to large enrollment classes. Whether this takes the form of a simple think/pair/share exercise during class or the use of Web 2.0 applications such as blogs and wikis, students should have the opportunity explore course material and make personal meaning of it.
My primary position at the University of Kentucky is as Senior Program Manager for Educational Development with the Teaching and Academic Support Center. In that capacity I consult with individual faculty and academic units on teaching and learning issues and work in collaboration with a variety of academic support and administrative offices to create, promote, facilitate, and assess programs and services that serve to foster educational innovation and enhance student success at this campus.
