Welcome to the UK Department of Biology’s Alumni website!
We invite you to browse these pages for information about biology-related events on campus, including lectures by visiting speakers, weekly seminars and workshops for teachers. These events are typically free and open to the public and we welcome your participation in them. This site also includes previous issues of the Department of Biology newsletter and news about our outstanding students, faculty and alumni.
Biology at UK is strongly committed to leading the Commonwealth of Kentucky in encouraging interest in science among K-12 students as well as providing professional development opportunities for science teachers. We encourage you to meet our faculty and students during sciences fairs and science fun days in your community and, if you are a teacher, consider participating in summer teacher workshops and training programs designed to enhance classroom laboratory and experimental techniques.
We also encourage you to consider becoming involved in the future of the department by making a charitable contribution to the biology department. In addition to supporting biology during the annual Arts & Sciences Phonathon, there are many ways to contribute to the department by making a gift of cash or stock, establishing or contributing to a named endowment or remembering the department with a planned gift.
Your tax-deductible gift will enable us to:
-
Provide tuition assistance and support research and travel opportunities for undergraduate students
-
Establish named professorships for outstanding faculty
-
Establish fellowships and research funds for graduate students
-
Support activities unique to the Department of Biology, including the Salamander Genome Project
Finally, I want to personally invite you to visit the Thomas Hunt Morgan Building or arrange for a tour of the new Biomedical/Biological Sciences Research Building the next time you are on campus. In addition to reconnecting with your alma mater, I think you will find much to be proud of in the department and will be impressed by the research and learning opportunities in biology at UK.
Thanks for your support of UK’s Department of Biology.
Sincerely,
Vincent Cassone
Professor and Chair
