Appalachian Studies is an Interdisciplinary Program offered by the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Kentucky.
The minor in Appalachian Studies is designed for students with a serious interest in the Appalachian Region. Through the program, students are enabled to more fully comprehend the history, social structure, and culture of the region. In addition to coursework under the Appalachian Studies heading, students select additional supporting coursework from the areas of sociology, history, music, English, geography, and political science. Courses are led by many notable scholars, and the university’s program in Appalachian Studies has been ranked as one of the best in its field.
