About A&S

Dean's Message

Welcome to UK’s College of Arts & Sciences Website. I am excited to have a new blog where I can update the incredible work being done in A&S, as well as my own personal experiences as dean. I hope you will follow along.

I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the college toward its expansive goals, and determined to have Arts & Sciences continue to set the standard of excellence for the University of Kentucky and the Commonwealth.

The start of a new academic year always brings with it fresh faces to campus, a fresh outlook and renewed energy. This fall, we welcomed over 5,000 new and returning undergraduate and graduate students to A&S.

Arts & Sciences fosters a vast range of research and graduate training.  Our faculty members routinely receive national and international fellowships, including the Fulbright, Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Humanities, and National Science Foundation awards. They also earn research grants from such prestigious organizations as the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

I encourage you to explore all the diversity A&S has to offer. The website is a gateway to the college’s 17 departments and 14 interdisciplinary programs, as well as the Arts & Sciences Advising Center and the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations.

The college is dedicated to the idea that every student should have an informed familiarity with the diversity of fields of knowledge about the human and natural worlds and their operations in time and space, the diversity of ways of organizing knowledge, and the diversity of modes of expression.

In a world that is increasingly more interconnected, our students are sharing their similarities and exploring their differences – and A&S is providing them the advanced literacy and mathematical and scientific skills that will best prepare them for today’s dynamic job market.

Sincerely,
Mark Lawrence Kornbluh
