The faculty in the Linguistics Program pursue a diverse range of research interests: they investigate the structural properties of individual languages as well as of large samples of contrasting languages; they examine synchronic variation and diachronic change in the use of languages; and they study people’s activity in the acquisition and use of their language(s). In all of these domains, their objective is to explain the fundamental nature of human language. Follow the links at left to find out more about the particular research interests of individual faculty.
